"Parker The Platypus"
We were getting ready for the first summer retreat which I started so she could join in on the wonderful experience of spending several days with your quilting friends for uninterrupted sewing and fun. Our guild retreats are all during the school year. Brooklynne had received several birthday cards with cash in them for her 10th birthday (March 2018) so she asked me to take her fabric shopping. When we were in the last quilt shop she saw a little stuffed chick and egg. She was gaga over it..she adores "stuffies". The pattern was $11.95 or you could buy the book with ALL the stuffie patterns for $19.95. I think she only had about $10 left but she had spent her money so wisely at the other shop by buying fabrics from the clearance section so I told her if she used the rest of her money I would cover the balance needed for the book. She was over the moon and decided that one of the stuffies would be her retreat project. Thus "Parker The Platypus" was born. This was also her very first three dimensional project. She has the egg cut out and ready to put together she's just waiting on my schedule to slow down a tad so I can teach her how to sew the curves and how to install the zipper.
Brooklynne had so much fun at her first quilting retreat and it was extra special because we had 3 of the 4 generations there. Her Mommy had to work and wasn't able to join us. The retreat lodge is near to where we live though so my daughter joined us one evening for dinner and to oooohhh and aaahhh at all the marvelous creations that were underway. I'm planning on doing another summer retreat in 2020 if all goes as planned.
